the geographic center of New York State, the region is a scenic treasure of rolling hills, tranquil lakes and picturesque forests. Our strategic location at the crossroads of New York State puts us within five hours of nearly every major eastern metropolitan area.
Central New York is building a diverse, high-tech, knowledge-intensive economy where employment and educational opportunities abound. The purpose of this Career Ladder Map website is to educate and inform students and job seekers about these opportunities by providing a user friendly framework for understanding and exploring the nature of a specific industry.
The Workforce Investment Boards from Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego Counties have obtained funding from the New York State Department of Labor to build these maps. Information was gathered from economic development organizations, government data bases, industry specific job search engines, professional associations, employers, chambers of commerce, Centers of Excellence and colleges and universities. We then met with groups of students and teachers to develop ways to use the maps in school-based career exploration programs.
